Beautiful Bridal Gowns

OK so my last post was a little heavy!  Time to move on:)
One of my passions is making wedding dresses.  Or altering them to make them more what the bride wants.  Here are some images I found of some lovely gowns!
I'm itching to create another one:)  Anyone want to get married?  And give me the privilege of making your wedding dress?

halloween

UPDATE:  I just came across some really amazing information.  Don't know why I didn't remember this from history class!  The Reformation started on October 31!!!  What a great way to counteract halloween!!!  Hallelujah!!!
I found the information on a blog I follow.  Go to August Fields and follow her link to
Happy Reformation Day

And here is some info I found for you:
On 31 October 1517, Luther wrote to Albert of Mainz, protesting against the sale of indulgences. He enclosed in his letter a copy of his "Disputation of Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences," which came to be known as The Ninety-Five Theses. Hans Hillerbrand writes that Luther had then no intention of confronting the church, but saw his disputation as a scholarly objection to church practices, and the tone of the writing is accordingly "searching, rather than doctrinaire." Hillerbrand writes that there is nevertheless an undercurrent of challenge in several of the theses, particularly in Thesis 86, which asks: "Why does the pope, whose wealth today is greater than the wealth of the richest Crassus, build the basilica of Saint Peter with the money of poor believers rather than with his own money?"
Luther objected to a saying attributed to Johann Tetzel that "As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory [also attested as 'into heaven'] springs." He insisted that, since forgiveness was God's alone to grant, those who claimed that indulgences absolved buyers from all punishments and granted them salvation were in error. Christians, he said, must not slacken in following Christ on account of such false assurances.
On the eve of All Saint's Day, October 31, 1517, Luther posted the ninety-five theses, which he had composed in Latin, on the door of the Castle Church of Wittenberg, according to university custom.
On the same day, Luther sent a hand-written copy, accompanied with honourable comments to the archbishop Albert of Mainz and Magdeburg responsible for the practice of the indulgence sales, and to the bishop of Brandenburg, the superior of Luther. Within two weeks, copies of the Theses had spread throughout Germany; within two months throughout Europe.

What a great thing to celebrate!!!

So if you know me at all you probably know that I HATE halloween.  HATE it with a PERFECT HATRED.  I count it my enemy.  It has nothing to do with Godliness, not even a form of godliness.  It is evil, satanic, demonic, horrible, straight from the pit of hell.
Now.  I'm not here to judge anyone who participates in any of the halloween hoopla.  But I've been struggling with 'just staying quiet'.  And so this year I'm gonna put it out there.  My family does NOT celebrate halloween.  My girls like pumpkins and yes, they have carved a few, and they like to dress up - all year long in play.  I don't have  an issue with dressing up,(unless it's scary) I definitely don't have an issue with pumpkins!, and I like candy as well as the rest of you:)
But I'm not sure I even like carving pumpkins.  Nothing wrong with pumpkins.  God made them and I love them for fall decor.  But carving them does have it's roots in halloween and halloween is evil. Is it right to try to put a 'good' mask on something that is evil?? Go here to read more on this.  I really like the picture above and there are some other really cool Biblical patterns out there.  But... I haven't decided for sure what I think on that one.  The whole idea of carving them came from something satanic.
And there lies my real issue - the evil and the spirit of fear that halloween is rooted in.
My husband and I also have an issue with the whole 'begging' part of 'beggars night'.  Begging really isn't something we want our kids to grow up proficient at.  And this generation wants everything handed to them anyway so why add to it??
In all the history of halloween and in all the research you can do there is NOTHING Godly about it.  It is straight from the devil himself.
So for some 'food for thought' I'm going to put this out here.
Just in case you never really thought about the meaning behind the 'holiday'.

I have copied a lot of the following from a friends blog.  You can find her blog here.
I also did some of my own research and linked to places you can read about it for yourself if you care to.

Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28
We rest in His Spirit.  Never to have the spirit of fear again.

HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN

Halloween is the festival of the dead.

Ephesians 5:6-16 says,
"Let no one deceive you with empty words; for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be partners with them.
For you were once darkness but now you are light in the Lord: live as children of light
(for the fruit of light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
and find out what pleases the Lord.  Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.  For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.  But everything exposed by the light becomes visible.  For it is light that makes everything visible.  This is why it is said:  Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.  Be very careful then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

6 BILLION dollars will be spent on Halloween this year.
Everything is based on feeling today.
People say that we take the fun out of everything and if we are not involved with Halloween
it is legalism.
But facts are facts....It's not based on feelings.

Halloween Past

300 years before Jesus was born there was a civilization known as the Celtics*They lived in the British Isles, Scandinavia, and Western Europe
Controlled by a secret society of pagan priest called the Druids which are mentioned more than 30 times in the Greek and Roman writings between the 2nd and 4th century ( so this is not a made up story)
Barbarak- blood thirsty, delighted in human and animal sacrifices ( including children ), Recorded in the Julius Caesar commentary that they would burn scores of people alive
2nd Chronicles 28:3

Festival of the Dead

On the eve of the festival ( October 31st ) the pagan worshipers would call together all the wicked spirits who in the last 12 months had been condemned to inhabit bodies of animals
Believed that on one night of the year souls of the dead could inhabit their original homes to be entertained by food
If food and water were not provided these spirits would cast spells and put curses on the people dwelling there
On this night entire communities would come together to build bon fires and make sacrifices ( animals, crops, themselves )
They would wear costumes made from the heads of animals and cover themselves with animal skins and read fortunes for all the people.

Anton LaVey
 Author of the satanic bible
high priest of the church of satan ( Leader of it all)

Three most important days of the santanist

 Their own birthday
April 30th ( the day the church of satan was founded )
October 31st the day when winter comes and the beginning of the witchcraft year

Note- There are no rules that the satanist practice except the 7 deadly sins....Lust, Gluttony, Pride, Greed, Envy, Jealousy and Laziness.

Scripture ( Look it up! )
 Revelations 17:14
 Revelations 20: 1,2,6
 Revelations 21 7 and 8

Jack a Lantern- Jack was a damned soul that was not allowed into Heaven because he tricked the devil in several places, he was not allowed into Hell therefore destined to roam the countryside ( They carved faces in pumpkins to scare Jack away )

Trick or Treat- if food was not provided, the wicked spirits would "trick" or cast spells on the people dwelling in the homes they visited

Costumes- to disguise yourself as one of the evil spirits who were coming back in animal bodies. If you wore an animal skin they wouldn't know it as you and they would leave you alone.

Witches- October 31st is the most sacred day for witches ( Beginning of the witchcraft year )

Black Cats - the witches "demon" helper

Bats- dwell in darkness, eat in darkness, represent a soul that can move

Now I would not recommend that you really read all the trash out there about halloween.  Even the stuff I linked to I didn't read thoroughly because it's just too evil.  But I linked so you can know I didn't pull all this out of thin air.  It is real.  It is evil.  As Christians we need to renounce it in Jesus name!  He has conquered satan and death.  Hallelujah!  Praise HIS name!

Come quickly Lord Jesus!  Oh please come quickly!!!

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
We fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely you bled, for us

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!

Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bow to none but heavens will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold you down
In strength you reign
Forever let your church proclaim

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!

Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave

Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
The glory of God has defeated the night!

Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
Our God is not dead, he's alive! he's alive!

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!!!

Bridesmaid dresses

OK so I haven't forgotten that this blog is called 'Sew a Fine Seam'
I have been sewing some just not doing a great job of sharing.
Or a great job of taking photos but I'll share what I have on my latest bridal project.

The dresses came to me like this.  I've never cared for strapless.  Always looks like the girl is going to fall out of it or it's going to fall off of her.  They can be made to fit properly and not look that way but most are not.  The mother of the bride wanted a little more modesty too.  It's amazing what the addition of some wide straps can do.

Since the dresses also needed some altering to fit properly I had to tear the bodice apart.  Because of that I opened it up all across the top and inserted the straps like they would have been had they been a part of the original design.  Had the dresses not needed the altering I would have handsewed the straps in place to eliminate the need to tear the dress apart.

And with the straps added.  I know it's not a great pic, I actually almost forgot to take one, but it's the best I have.  I'm hoping eventually I will get some pics from the actual wedding.  The pics look so much better with the dresses on the intended wearer.

Full length, these dresses almost brushed the floor.

Autumn Decor

I got a whole box of old clay pots at a garage sale.  All for $2

Habanero and chili peppers from a friend.  Habaneros are almost too hot for us to use in cooking but they make a lovely centerpiece on the kitchen table.

Time for the 'greenhouse' to come back inside.  It is perched on top of my refrigerator.  And I'm liking it better ever day!

My dining room nook.  Again.  I really like how this vignette looks:)

My kitchen window.  The rosemary was a lot taller but I used a bunch of it to make Pioneer Woman's Rosemary Potatoes.  I really really hope I can keep these plants alive for a few months anyway.  Fresh rosemary is the best. (Along with fresh basil. I should try to grow it inside too.)

Don't forget to enter my giveaway in the post below this!!  Ends next Tuesday, November 1st.

Super Fun Giveaway!!!!

I LOVE scrapbooking. You didn't know that?  Well, that would be because I've never shared any of my scrapbooking with  you.  And that would be because I am just too busy to do any scrapbooking.  It's also getting harder and harder to find room to store stuff around this place as the girls get bigger and acquire more 'stuff' of their own.  And scrapbooking takes a LOT of stuff.  I don't think I've actually scrapbooked since Little Sister was born.  I do love to edit pics on the computer though and I have thought that scrapbooking on the computer would most likely be faster than the
do-it-by-hand version.  Just never tried any of it out.
And now I will try to get to the point of this post:)
I was recently privileged to have someone like my blog enough to offer me a great giveaway to share with all of you! My Memories Suite is a computer scrapbooking program.  They offered it to me to review and I LOVE it!  LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  It's extremely easy to use and is just so much fun.
Take a look at some of the pages I put together.  Very quickly too I might add!

That's just a small sample of the stuff you can do with this program.  I'm in LOVE with it!  Did I mention that?  I really mean it.  I really like playing with it.  Little Sister may get her own scrapbook yet:)   Anyway, they want to give one of my readers this software for FREE!  Isn't that so great of them?!!  If you've never tried digital scrapbooking software it's time you did.  It's the best. The My Memories Suite comes with lots of backgrounds, embellishments, shapes, etc. loaded into it.  You can add music, make videos and more.  I haven't tried all of that yet but if it's as easy as the rest of it has been there will be NO problem.  And if that is not enough, you can also buy additional paper and embellishments from the My Memories website.  There are tons of cool things they offer for very reasonable prices.

So.  Are you ready to enter the giveaway?  Just leave me a comment on this post to enter.  If you have time I'd encourage you to check out the My Memories site.  You can make photo books, videos, and cards to name a few of the things you can do there.
The Mymemoriessuite is valued at $40.  One of you will get it for FREE!
Also, they have given me a coupon code for $10 off that I can pass on to the rest of you!

Indian Summer

We really haven't had 'Indian Summer' this year.
Think we might still get one???
I would be ecstatic if November turned out WARM.  Really warm.  Really Really warm would suit me just fine:)

I found the following information interesting.  Thought I would share!

An Indian summer is a meteorological phenomenon that occurs in the autumn. It refers to a period of considerably above normal temperatures, accompanied by dry and hazy conditions, usually after there has been a killing frost. Depending on latitude and elevation, the phenomenon can occur in the Northern Hemisphere between late September and mid November
The modern use of the term is when the weather is sunny and clear, and above 70 °F, after there has been a sharp frost; a period normally associated with late-October to mid-November.

The expression 'Indian summer' has been used for more than two centuries. The earliest known use was by French-American writer John Hector St. John de Crevecoeur in rural New York in 1778: "Then a severe frost succeeds which prepares it to receive the voluminous coat of snow which is soon to follow; though it is often preceded by a short interval of smoke and mildness, called the Indian Summer." There are several theories as to its etymology:
  • In Colonial New England and New York, Indian Summer referred only to a January Thaw, when American Indian Raiding parties could be expected in the western and northern areas: the ground had briefly lost its snow cover so tracking the Native American raiders back to their winter camps was much more difficult for the Colonials.
  • In The Americans: The Colonial Experience, Daniel J. Boorstin speculates that the term originated from raids on European colonies by American Indian war parties; these raids usually ended in late autumn (due to snow covered ground), hence summer-like weather in the late fall and mid winter was an Indian Summer, a time raiding parties could be expected.
  • Two other known uses of the term in the 18th century are from accounts kept by two army officers leading retaliation expeditions against Indians for winter raiding parties on settlers in Ohio and Indiana in 1790, and Pennsylvania in 1794.
  • It may be so named because this was the traditional period during which early American Indians harvested their crops of squash and corn.
  • In the same way that Indian giver was coined for people who take back presents they have bestowed, the phrase Indian summer may simply have been a way of saying "false summer".
Why Indian? Well, no one knows but, as is commonplace when no one knows, many people have guessed. Here are a few of the more commonly repeated guesses:
  • When European settlers first came across the phenomenon in America it became known as the Indian's Summer.
  • The haziness of the Indian Summer weather was caused by prairie fires deliberately set by Native American tribes.
  • It was the period when First Nations/Native American peoples harvested their crops.
  • The phenomenon was more common in what were then North American Indian territories.
  • It relates to the marine shipping trade in the Indian Ocean (this is highly dubious as it is entirely remote from the early US citations).
  • It originated from raids on European settlements by Indian war parties, which usually ended in autumn.
  • In a parallel with other 'Indian' terms it implied a belief in Indian falsity and untrustworthiness and that an Indian summer was an ersatz copy of the real thing.

Inspiration

Some pictures from my 'creative ideas' folder.
No I don't know where they all came from unless they have the name watermarked on the picture.
I'm off to find a warm spot to curl up for the evening!
Coming up soon is a really fun giveaway I've been privileged to offer you!  Watch for it soon!

Love this stairway.  Seriously considering adding some numbers to my steps when finally get them painted.  But I might mix mine up.  Or would that make it difficult to climb them??!

Have a coffee table that needs a facelift?  I'd highly recommend trying this.  It's just darling.

By the way my laundry always looks I need this in my laundry room.  And maybe in every room of the house so I don't keep 'forgetting' to do the laundry!

This is just the most fun, girly, romantic tablecloth ever.  Want one?  I'd love to make one for you:)

I am going to figure out how to make one of these for myself.  If you know me in-real-life you should soon see me wearing one of these:)

Southern Cookin'

I recently checked out a Southern Living Magazine at the library.  And decided it had some yummy sounding recipes.  This is the one I decided to try - Shrimp and Grits.  It was absolutely scrumptious.
That is if you like shrimp.  And spinach.  And grits.  Which Travis and I do.  The sisters?  Wouldn't even look at it.  They don't know what they missed.  Oh well, it wouldn't have been enough for all of us anyway.
Want to try it yourself?  Here's the recipe!  Found here.

Auctions for a cause

This is worth your time to check out.  I copied from a friends blog since she had already done the work.  Thanks Holly!!  You can get a start on your Christmas shopping and help out a very worthy cause at the same time.  And on top of that you will be buying things made by 'real' people instead of from the big box store up the street.

Sarah's Covenant Homes, fondly referred to as SCH, is a home for children with varying degrees of special needs. Some range to mild while others are severe and almost all of the children have medical issues that their tiny bodies fight against on a daily basis. Over 100 precious lives are meticulously and carefully doted over by a team of dedicated and devoted "ayah"'s and various mission teams who come to volunteer. Caring and supporting 100 innocent souls can be a daunting task, yet Sarah Rebbavarapu (founder and director) does so with the love and attention that she shows her own three young daughters. Sarah is originally from Chinook, Montana and had a vision from the Lord to open this home over 11 years ago.

So, how does SCH support 100 children, you got it....DONATIONS! All of which is spent to care and provide for the children's medical & physical needs. Running a home with that many children can be tricky when money from the sponsors can be tight. Here steps in "Auctions for a Cause"!
Auctions for a Cause is just what it says, an auction created to help raise funds for a cause, in this case Sarah's Covenant Homes. Various individuals have donated handcraft items as well as the few bought, to donate for the auction to be held on Monday, October 17th. thru October 24th. Why do you want to participate? Here are a few reasons...

And if the items are not motivation enough for you to bid, then how about these sweet ones...

As difficult as these images can be, this is the harsh reality of the children's lives when they first came to Sarah's Covenant Homes. If not for the the home willing to take these dear ones in, the majority of the children would of died alone, with no one to hold their hand, no one to caress their cheek, no one to show them the love of Jesus.

So, you see the importance of this auction!
The money made from the auction will literally be saving lives!!!
Don't you want to be a part of that?

It kind of gives new meaning to James 1:27, doesn't it?

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
James 1:27
All For Him!
